Statement of Faith

SECTION 1 - THE SCRIPTURES

We believe the Bible to be the very Word of God; that the sixty-six books comprising the Old and New Testaments are verbally inspired in all parts and therefore wholly without error as originally given by God; that it is our final authority, our only and all-sufficient rule of faith and practice. 2 Timothy 3:16 Matthew 24:35

SECTION 2 - GOD THE FATHER

We believe there is one living and true God; who is inexpressibly holy, infinite, eternal, and perfect in all His attributes; who is self-existent in three distinct persons - Father, Son and Holy Spirit, each of whom is to be honoured and worshipped equally. Exodus 3:14; 34:6-7, Matthew 28:19, Mark 1:10-11, Colossians 1:15-19

SECTION 3 - THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

We believe the Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God and God the Son, who eternally existed in pre-incarnate glory. We believe in His virgin birth, sinless life, all-sufficient substitutionary death, victorious bodily resurrection, triumphant ascension, present intercession and personal and glorious return. Hebrews 1:3, John 1:1, 14, Philippians 2:5-11

SECTION 4 - THE HOLY SPIRIT

We believe in the absolute deity and personality of the Holy Spirit; that He is the Divine agent in the sinner's regeneration and the believer's sanctification. We believe He baptizes all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. Ephesians 1:13-14, Romans 8:14-16, Galatians 5:16-25

SECTION 5 - SATAN

We believe in the existence and personality of Satan; that he was created perfect; but through pride rebelled against God, thus becoming utterly depraved; that he is the adversary of God and His children, and is the power behind the world's godless and deceptive activity; and that his final doom is settled in the lake of fire. Genesis 3:1ff, Ephesians 6:11-12, 1 Peter 5:8, Revelation 12:9; 20:7-10, Job 1:6

SECTION 6 - MAN

We believe that man was directly created by God; that he, through personal disobedience, became a fallen creature, thus incurring both physical and spiritual death upon the human race. Being then totally depraved, man is dependent on the mercy of God. Genesis 1-3, Romans 5:12ff, Ephesians 2:1-5

SECTION 7 - SALVATION

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God; neither merited nor secured in part or in whole by any virtue or work of man, but received only by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It is bestowed only by the sovereign grace of God through the all-sufficient sacrifice of Christ and is provided for all. We believe that those whom God has effectually called shall be preserved and finally perfected in the image of the Lord. Ephesians 1:13-14; 2:8-10, Galatians 2:16, Romans 10:9

SECTION 8 - THE CHURCH

We believe the New Testament local church is a company of immersed believers, voluntarily associated together for the ministry of the Word, mutual helpfulness and edification, observance of the ordinances and fulfilment of the great commission (making disciples, baptizing and teaching unto the ends of the earth). We believe the church is to be sovereign and under no higher ecclesi¬astical authority. We believe that Christians are to live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present world. Ephesians 4:1-16, Matthew 28:18-20

SECTION 9 - CHURCH ORDINANCES

We believe that there are two church ordinances in the New Testament: namely Baptism and the Lord's Supper, in that order. We believe baptism is the immersion in water of a believer as a testimony of union, by faith, with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. We believe that the Lord's Supper was instituted by the Lord Jesus the night before He died. Its purpose is to be a memorial service for Christians in the local church. It looks back in history to Calvary and Christ’s death and forward to His victorious return. It has a three fold aspect: worship, fellowship, and self-examination. The elements of the service, bread and cup, are only symbolic of the body and blood of the Lord. The Lord’s Table is to be practised regularly and consistently by the Lord’s people until He returns. It is important that each member regularly and humbly observe this memorial ordinance to continue to be in spiritual fellowship and to be a member in good standing. 1 Corinthians 11:23-27, Acts 2:38

SECTION 10 - FUTURE THINGS

We believe in the personal, imminent, bodily and glorious return of the Lord Jesus Christ and that as Christians, we will be resurrected to appear before the judgement seat of Christ so that each one may receive according to what he has done in the body. We believe in the eternal blessedness of the righteous, and in the eternal punishment of the wicked. The wicked will be judged at the Great White Throne judgement. Matthew 24:27-31, I Thessalonians 4:13-5:11, Revelation 20:12-21:7

SECTION 11 - CIVIL GOVERNMENT

We believe that civil government is of divine appointment for the interest and good order of society; the authorities are to be prayed for conscientiously, honoured and obeyed, except only in the things opposed to the will of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is the only Lord of the conscience and Prince of the kings of the earth. Romans 13:1-8, Matthew 22:21, 1 Peter 2:16-17, Hebrews 12:14

SECTION 12 - CHURCH AND STATE

We believe in the entire separation of church and state. Philippians 3:20

SECTION 13 - RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

We believe in religious liberty; that every man has the right to practice and propagate his belief. Galatians 5:1
